Abstract: We use metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as a unique platform tosynthesize nanostructured functional materials with both controlled compositionand structure. Due to the atomically arranged metal ions and organic ligands,as well as the wide variety of compositions and porous structures, MOFs canserve as unique precursors for easy preparation of metal-based materials, carbonaceous materials and nanocomposites with high porosity and tunablecomposition/structure.  In this talk, Iwill briefly discuss some progress we have made in this area. Specifically, Iwill mention some examples of designed synthesis of nanostructured metaloxides, sulfides, nitrides, and carbides using MOF precursors. These MOF-derivednanomaterials exhibit interesting electrochemical properties.
